Yes, that was my response to Lisa when she said “How about we walk until we can’t walk anymore and see how far we can get.” As some of you know, working out is not my thing. I joke that the last time I went to the gym, Carter was President. The reason that it is a joke is because if you know me, you know that I did not even go to the gym when, in fact, he was the President.
But this is exactly what this year is about – trying new things that I would NEVER do otherwise. So, that is what we did. We hit the road at 8:00am on Wednesday morning and just starting walking…north. Lisa pointed to the horizon and said “we are going to walk to those mountains” and that is what we did – 18 miles and 9 hours later, we landed in Malibu – at the Charthouse restaurant to be quite specific. And I had the most well-deserved cocktail of my life. I just love the attached picture. If you look hard enough, you can see the sunset, ocean and sand in the background.
What did I learn from this outing? First, that I rock! With no training (other than circling the J. Crew Store and occasionally walking up the stairs in my house), I strapped on a pair of new “work-out” socks and sneakers and walked all day! I also learned that I live in paradise. I had never seen so many beautiful towns so close to me and walking the shoreline was the best way to see them – on a perfectly sunny day with a friend and an adventure. Finally, I learned so much about Lisa – we literally never stopped talking the entire time – and am that much more excited about the next 51 adventures with her.
